Theater piece by Daisuke Terauchi

Hands for 2 performers (1997)
This is one of his theater pieces.
This piece was written for the concert by KURAYAMI NININ BAORI which is performance group in Japan. He composed a lot of this kind of theater pieces from 1997 to 2000.
This piece has to be performed by 2 performers.
The 2 performers in the big black cloth (or plastic) only show their hand to the audience.
They communicate by painting each other with their hands.







Performance in Hiroshima

This piece may remind the audience of "Communication" and "Sex".
However, Daisuke Terauchi never states what his theater piece wants to express.

Some artists have certain views that they want to express such as some emotions, landscapes, political messages and so on.
However, Daisuke Terauchi does not want to tell the audience what they should think or experience when enjoying his works.
If the audience perceives his work in a different way from his expecting, then he accepts this as well.
Never stating his concept is also one of his intentions.

Wandering for 2 performers (1997)
This piece is one of his theater pieces.
It was written for the concert by KURAYAMI NININ BAORI which is performance group in Japan.

This piece has to be performed by 3 performers (2 performers and 1 piano player).
2 performers choose one card from many white cards on the floor and turn it up.
On the backside of each card is written one of the following things "DO", "RE", "MI", "FA", "SOL",
"LA", "SI".
2 performers sing the note of the card which they have chosen.
The piano player plays the same notes as the singers and start to improvise based on these given notes.
The 2 performers continue picking up and putting down again written on side down and singing the notes.
The piano player also continues improvisation.

Metronomes for 2 performers (1998)
This piece is one of his theater pieces.
It was written for the concert by KURAYAMI NININ BAORI which is performance group in Japan.

This piece has to be performed by 2 performers.
Each performer walks to the tempo of the metronome set by the other performer.
The metronomes have different tempo which can be changed.
This created a complex relationship of the 2 performers both in rhythm and vision.
In the middle of the piece, a new rhythm is added to the piece, creating a new layer of complexity.
